Valencia Suspended and FAM Election Announced

Valencia have been suspended from all football activities, and new Football Association of Maldives (FAM) elections will be held on April.
Earlier, FIFA and the AFC had blocked the election. The reason for this was the issue relating to Valencia that emerged during the elections. The two candidates contesting the FAM Presidency had each submitted a Valencia-backed letter to the FAM, which joined FIFA and the AFC in investigating the matter.
Valencia's support for both candidates was brought to the attention of the international stage by FAM presidential candidate Ahmed Thoriq (Tom). The FAM stopped the election after considering Thoriq’s motion. Thoriq filed the case after the FAM canceled his candidacy over the letter of support.
Following Thoriq’s appeal, FIFA and the AFC canceled the FAM election because the FAM’s electoral appeal committee had not been formed.
Valencia Football suspended Hassan Waheed from the club's board of directors on Wednesday. This led to the FAM deciding to suspend Valencia until a new board is elected.
Valencia have seven days to appeal the FAM's decision.
The FAM's executive committee meeting yesterday decided to hold new elections within 45 days. The election is set for April 20th. The deadline for nominations is 16th of this month.
Police are investigating many cases at the Maldivian Football Headquarters, and have already started prosecuting some individuals involved in corruption.
