Male' City Mayor Adam Azim Praises PNC Councillors at Decentralization Conference

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim commended members of the People's National Congress (PNC) who serve on the Male' City Council for their continued support during a speech at a decentralisation conference organised by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today.
Addressing the audience, Mayor Azim highlighted the contributions of the PNC councillors, particularly their unwavering support on key city projects. Despite his praise for the PNC councillors, tensions within MDP were apparent as party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail reportedly instructed the MDP social media team not to publicize Azim's statements.
Azim also noted that his efforts to hire consultants for Male' City Council had been met with success, although only one of the 15 consultants hired belonged to the MDP. He explained the process, stating, "When I wanted to hire consultants, we took 15 consultants and among them, only one was a member of our party."
The decentralized relations conference is part of a broader discussion on local governance and city administration, and Azim's remarks brought to light the internal dynamics between the ruling MDP and the PNC.
