Maldives Backs UN Resolution Urging Israel’s Withdrawal from Palestinian Territories

The Maldives has voted in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution that calls for Israel’s withdrawal from Palestinian territories within a 12-month deadline. The resolution, introduced by the Palestinian delegation, received the backing of 124 countries, including the Maldives, while 14 nations opposed it, and 43 abstained.
In a statement on X, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer underscored the need to halt anti-racism law violations in Gaza and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. He stressed that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) must enforce the resolution and emphasized that Palestinian aspirations for justice, peace, and statehood can only be fulfilled through the establishment of the pre-1967 borders, recognizing Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.
The UN resolution, informed by an ICJ recommendation, concluded that Israel has been violating international law by occupying Palestinian territories since 1967, calling for an end to these actions, including the settlement of new Jewish communities in the region.
