President Muizzu Denies Misuse of Public Funds for Private Visits, Commits to Transparency

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has firmly denied allegations of using public funds for personal visits since assuming office, addressing claims made by opposition groups. In an exclusive interview with Sangu TV, President Muizzu emphasized that he has adhered strictly to the principles of fiscal responsibility and transparency, ensuring that no public funds have been spent on his private excursions.
Responding to accusations from various opposition factions, President Muizzu clarified that, under existing regulations, it is permissible to allocate funds from the Mulia budget for personal visits to the president's official residence. However, he made it clear that he has not utilized any such funds for personal purposes and has no intention of doing so in the future.
President Muizzu further disclosed that during the period of renovations at the official presidential residence, Muliaage, following his inauguration, he personally covered all related expenses while staying at his private residence, M. Dhimyaath. He reiterated his commitment to avoiding any expenditure from the state budget for personal use, even when provisions for such spending might exist.
Since taking office, the Muizzu administration has taken significant steps to enhance transparency in government spending, particularly concerning the official expenses of the president and vice president. Unlike the previous administration, which kept such information confidential, the current government has begun publicly disclosing these expenditures. This move is part of a broader effort to ensure accountability in the use of public funds and to reduce the financial burden on the state.
The president's commitment to transparency and prudent financial management reflects his administration's focus on maintaining public trust and promoting responsible governance. As President Muizzu continues his term, his approach to fiscal discipline is likely to remain a central tenet of his leadership.
