The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has been entrusted by the Male' City Council with a comprehensive study aimed at determining the duration of automobile usage within the city. This initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to tackle the increasing traffic congestion in Male' City.
The Male' City Council has allocated MVR 625,700 for the study, which is expected to be completed within 120 days. This research will provide crucial insights into vehicle utilization patterns, contributing to the development of effective traffic management solutions.
The government recently announced plans to seek technical assistance from Dubai to further mitigate traffic congestion issues in Male'. This move aligns with the government's significant initiative to implement a range of measures aimed at alleviating traffic challenges in the city.
Data from the Ministry of Transport reveals a notable increase in vehicle registrations over the past five years, with 69,780 new cars registered nationwide. Of these, approximately 42,000 were registered in the Greater Male' Region, highlighting the growing demand for effective traffic management solutions.
The study by IUM will play a pivotal role in understanding vehicle usage trends, which is essential for devising strategies to ease traffic congestion and improve overall urban mobility in Male' City.
