Vehicle Registration Now Strictly Regulated: Minister Ameen

Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen has declared that illegal vehicle registration is no longer possible under the current government. Speaking on Sangu TV, Minister Ameen highlighted significant steps taken to address vehicle congestion and illegal activities in the city.
Minister Ameen revealed that over 118,000 vehicles are registered in the Malé area, with more than 1,000 operating without registration. He emphasized the importance of reducing the number of vehicles on the roads and stopping illegal activities to ensure city safety.
"Under the direct direction of President Muizzu, the government has taken crucial measures to tackle this issue. Previously, vehicles could be registered with garage letters that did not correspond to actual garages. This practice has been halted," stated Minister Ameen.
In addition, the government has introduced the 'Green City' program, which includes vehicle registration reforms, regulations to control the number of vehicles, and enhancements to public transport. This program aims to make the streets of Malé safer and more convenient for travel and walking.
Minister Ameen noted that prior to the current administration, even cycles could not be registered in Malé, leading to registrations being done in other areas. He stressed the need to regulate the number of vehicles allowed in the city to prevent further congestion and emphasized that streets should not be used as storage for vehicle businesses.
To address this, the minister has engaged with vehicle dealers and announced that changes will be made to ensure that the automobile business is conducted in compliance with laws and regulations. Starting next month, a separate area will be designated for vehicle storage on a commercial basis, in line with business rules.
Minister Ameen expressed his gratitude to President Muizzu for his continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of Malé’s roads. The measures taken are part of a broader initiative to create a more organized and efficient transportation system in the city.
