The Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has announced a significant expansion in its operations, with plans to commence the export of Maldivian fish to Southeast Asia. This move aims to broaden the market reach for Maldivian fish products and strengthen regional trade relations.
Thaha Mohammed, Chief Commercial Officer of MSS, revealed that the company will be exporting fish from the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) and other Maldivian fish exporters in Maldives to European countries. Additionally, starting this month, frozen fish will be exported to various countries in both West and East Asia.
On July 14, MSS launched shipping routes from Port Klang, Malaysia, and Singapore to Colombo, Sri Lanka. This new route will facilitate the export of fish to Southeast Asian countries using MSS's own containers, thereby enhancing the efficiency and reach of Maldivian fish exports.
MSS and MIFCO are collaborating closely to identify and penetrate new markets for Maldivian fish products. This partnership is expected to significantly boost the presence of Maldivian fish in international markets, particularly in Southeast Asia.
The initiative underscores the Maldives' commitment to expanding its export base and capitalizing on the growing demand for high-quality fish products in the region. By leveraging its strategic geographical position and robust shipping infrastructure, MSS aims to establish itself as a key player in the regional seafood market.
