Immigration authorities in Male' City have arrested six foreign nationals for engaging in illegal trade activities, marking a continuation of crackdown operations against unauthorised businesses run by foreigners.
In a statement posted on X, Immigration announced that two markets in Male' City were targeted during a raid conducted on July 7, 2024. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the presence of illegal enterprises operated by foreign nationals without proper permits.
Just last week, Immigration raided a coffee shop in Phase-1 of Hulhumale' and apprehended eight foreign individuals involved in similar illegal activities. Prior to that, another raid on two city markets resulted in the detention of 50 foreigners.
Maldives has been facing an influx of foreign immigrants engaged in various businesses without the required permits, posing challenges to regulatory authorities.
