Male' City Council Cuts Down the Last Tree in Male' City

Male' City Council has cut down the only natural green area in Male' City. Located next to Dharubaaruge near the Sinamale' bridge. All green areas in Male' City have been cleared for housing and other purposes throughout the years.

In a social media post, City Council spokesperson Shathufa stated that no trees were cut, only palm trees were removed, and other trees were merely "trimmed."

During the previous regime lead by MDP, residents filed a court case against a government company for cutting down trees on Ameenee Magu. An emergency motion was also filed in parliament over the issue.

While the specific purpose for cutting the palm trees remains unclear, a post shared by City Council spokesperson Shathufa on social media indicated that a park and an outdoor gym would be developed in the area.
