Police Warn Public of Scams Using Fake Links for Vinares Flats

The Maldives Police Service has issued a warning to the public about a recent scam involving fake links purporting to offer applications for Vinares flats from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). These fraudulent messages claim that HDC has opened applications for the winners' flats and include a link to a website for more information.

Police have reported that scammers are hacking Facebook and Instagram accounts to send these messages, subsequently extorting money from individuals on the victims' friend lists.

The public is advised to exercise caution and avoid clicking on suspicious links or providing personal information in response to such messages. The police emphasize that there has been a significant rise in cases where fake IDs are used to scam money through social media platforms.

Authorities urge citizens to verify the authenticity of any communication regarding housing applications directly with HDC and to report any suspicious activities to the police.
