The "Maldivians with Palestine" Telethon Fund, spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has garnered more than MVR 14.8 million to assist the Palestinian people, according to the latest update from the Public Service Media (PSM) as of 01:15 pm.
Crowe Maldives, the independent audit firm appointed to oversee the fund, reported that the counting process was delayed due to a large volume of small denomination contributions. However, they have confirmed that all funds have now been counted, totaling MVR 14.8 million.
The detailed breakdown provided by Crowe Maldives shows that the telethon received MVR 723,948 in cash, $1,343, and 81 euros from donation boxes. Additionally, MVR 6.8 million was deposited through online bank transfers, and USD 33,950 was credited to dollar accounts.
The "Maldivians with Palestine" Telethon was launched yesterday to support the Palestinian cause. Initially scheduled to run from 8 am to 12 noon, the telethon has been extended to allow donations until 6 pm today due to the overwhelming response.
Besides public contributions, significant donations were made by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), and the Maldivian Defence Forces. The telethon, which received an enthusiastic response from the public, was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu yesterday.
