First Four Months of 2024: Tourist Occupancy Picks Up in Maldives

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has reported a significant increase in tourist occupancy in the first four months of 2024. The overall occupancy rate for this period was 72.7%, compared to 69.5% in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, marking a 3.2% increase.
Detailed MMA data reveals the following trends:
- Resorts: The occupancy rate reached 82.2% in the first four months of 2024, up from 80.8% in the same period last year.
- Guesthouses: The occupancy rate rose to 56.6% compared to 48.2% in the same period last year.
- Hotels: The occupancy rate increased to 39.7% from 30.5% in the same period last year.
- Safaris: The occupancy rate decreased to 33.9% from 38.3% in the same period last year.
With the exception of safaris, all categories saw an increase in occupancy rates, contributing to a rise in occupancy rate. According to the Ministry of Tourism, 907,066 tourists have visited the Maldives as of June 4, 2024. The government aims to attract 2 million tourists by the end of the year.
