Today, Maldives witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of its 20th Parliament. Chief Justice Ahmed Mutassim Adnan officiated the event, underscoring the significance of the occasion as elected representatives pledged their dedication to the nation and its people.
In adherence to parliamentary protocol, each member, with a hand on the Quran, affirmed their commitment to uphold the constitution and discharge their duties with integrity. This symbolic gesture marked the commencement of their legislative journey, as they prepare to navigate the complex challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
The composition of the 20th Parliament reflects the outcome of the parliamentary elections held on April 21, wherein 93 constituencies participated. The ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) secured victory in 73 of these constituencies, consolidating its mandate to govern. Notably, a substantial proportion of the newly sworn-in members comprises individuals new to parliamentary service, reflecting a diverse spectrum of voices and perspectives.
