PNC Wins Majority in Male, Addu and Fuvahmulah

The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has won the majority of the parliamentary seats in the three most populous cities of the country.
Of the 20 atolls in Maldives, there was only one, Alif Alif Atoll, where the PNC did not win a seat. Every other atoll was either dominated by PNC candidates or had a split where 1 seat went to the PNC and the other available seat went to a different party.
The PNC candidate Mohamed Musthafa Hussain won the Maafannu West seat, which has almost always gone to an MDP candidate in the past.
The PNC also won the Henveiru West, Central Henveiru and Henveiru South constituencies. The party also won most of the constituencies in Vilimale and Hulhumale.
In addition, the PNC won five out of eight seats in Addu, with the MDP having won 2 seats and an independent candidate winning the remaining seat.
The ruling PNC won all three seats in Fuvahmulah.
The PNC has secured 67 seats in today's election. These include many constituencies where the opposition MDP has long maintained a majority.
