Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said that he always wishes former President Abdullah Yameen well, and hopes for his success in his appeal hearing in the High Court today.
The Criminal Court convicted former President Yameen of accepting bribes and money laundering in connection with an island lease transaction on December 25th, 2022.
The appeal hearings in the case were concluded on November 21st last year, and the verdict is scheduled for today.
In a post on X today, Minister Shiyam stated that he always wishes President Yameen and his family well. He also wished President Yameen victory at today's hearing.
The MDP has influenced the trial of President Yameen through the Judicial Service Commission, but he hopes former President Yameen is released today, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said yesterday.
“I am very hopeful that he will be released tomorrow,” he said at a campaign rally held by the People’s National Congress (PNC) in Malé yesterday.
The PPM presidential ticket was handed over to President Dr. Muizzu after former President Yameen was deemed unable to contest the last presidential election due to his jail sentence.
