President Urges People to Maintain Friendship Despite Differences of Opinion

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for friendship regardless of differences of opinion.
Speaking at a special ceremony held at the Jumhooree Maidhan last night where he lit the Eid lights and reopened the Republic Square fountain, President Dr. Muizzu said that Maldivians are a proud people who have upheld the deen of Islam. He added that the people of Maldive should also be proud to promote Islam.
The President said that the people should prepare for Eid and celebrate the day according to the rules of religion. Different islands are asking for lights for Eid and the government has pledged to provide as much as possible.
The President said he was pleased that Eid is being celebrated in this way across the country.
"I want us to celebrate Eid as one in the same spirit. Friendship should not disappear among us no matter what kind of differences we have, parents should teach all children that everyone is united," he said.
The President urged all citizens to celebrate this year’s Eid in accordance with Islamic principles.
"I encourage you to conduct activities happily during this Eid. I would like to ask you to conduct activities in the streets as you wish," he said.
The President thanked the agencies involved in the hard work of preparing the Eid lights in the cities and administrative centers.
