The MDP was entrusted the government in 2018 and was given the super majority in Parliament in 2019, but the people of the city and the people of Maldives in general were neglected, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
President Dr. Muizzu said this while addressing the opening of the campaign booth of Ibrahim Mohamed, who is contesting the Machangolhi North constituency on behalf of the ruling PNC in the upcoming parliamentary elections on 21st of this month.
President Muizzu said the April 21st election are very important for the development of the city and the entire country. He said the MDP government has done nothing for the development of the city in the last five years.
Therefore, the people voted for a change in government in the last presidential election, he said.
“People trusted what I said, because the MDP currently holds a majority in parliament, and had control of the government. The promise of land and flats was the promise that the people of the city voted for before the rise of the MDP government. Even after the people gave the MDP government a super majority, many days, months, and years passed without giving priority to the most important issues for the people of Male,” he said.
The President said the people of Male elected him as Mayor in the council elections to send a message of no confidence in the previous government.
He also explained in detail the way the MDP government mishandled the land allocation scheme. Dr. Muizzu said he is keeping his promise and is not wasting any time.
