The police are investigating two cases of downloading videos and photos containing child pornography. One of the cases has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office for prosecution, the police said.
The Crime Investigation Command of the Maldives Police Service said in a press conference today that the police had received information from foreign law enforcement agencies about the downloading of child pornography. The police have launched an investigation into the cases.
Two cases of downloading videos and photos containing child pornography are being investigated and one of the cases has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) for prosecution.
A 32-year-old man has now been charged with downloading child pornography and videos, in a case which was sent to the PGO in October last year.
The age group of the children involved in the downloaded photos and videos ranged from 2 years old to 18 years old, police said.
The police are looking into a serious case of downloading child pornography using Maldivian SIM cards and IDs through social media, police said.
In addition, additional training will be given to officers investigating such cases to enhance their capacity to investigate them.
