President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is a champion of decentralization, according to Cities, Local Government and Public Works Minister Adam Shareef Umar, who added that the country's economy is growing rapidly.
Minister Adam Shareef said this while addressing the people of Dhiggaru during the President’s tour of the atolls to meet with the people.
The Minister said changes need to be made to the councils. There is no person more capable than Dr. Muizzu, and this government will show unparalleled, beautiful examples of the power to run the councils of Maldives, and the efforts to link the councils with the government, he said.
Minister Shareef said he would bring unprecedented improvements to the councils in the next five years, and if the improvements were not achieved, he would resign.
The Minister will also be with the councils when they speak on behalf of the people, he said.
In addition, the government is not trying to take the money in the accounts of the councils to Malé. The government wants to empower the councils and increase their revenue, he said.
