Abdullah Shahid Runs for MDP Presidency

Former Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has decided to run for the presidency of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

It has been revealed that Shahid has expressed interest in becoming the MDP president. He is also the only one who has so far expressed interest in running for the party’s presidency. However, the MDP has not officially announced this.

The party's last president, former President Mohamed Nasheed, left the party last year. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has been appointed as the party’s interim president.

The opportunity is now open for members who wish to nominate candidates for the party’s presidency until the 20th of February 2024 at 14:00. The party's presidential election is scheduled for March 2nd.
