186 Foreigners Deported for Crimes

The Government launched special operations to identify and track down foreigners residing in Maldives who are in the country illegally, or taking part in criminal activities.
The Home Ministry recently held a press conference to say that the Immigration Department has arrested foreigners who have committed serious crimes and deported some foreigners as well.
Most of the deportees were from Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.
Among the people deported were 83 Bangladeshis, 43 Indians, 25 Sri Lankans, 8 Nepalese, 7 Thais, 8 Vietnamese, 4 Filipinos, 3 Nigerians, 2 Brazilians, 1 Pakistani, 1 Russian and 1 Latvian.
These include those involved in visa violations and drug cases.
