A program to train councils to implement the Housing Tenancy Act has been launched by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
The program was inaugurated by Minister of Cities Adam Shareef Umar at a ceremony held yesterday. Speaking at the launch ceremony, Local Government Authority (LGA) CEO Dr. Maryam Zulfa said the Housing Tenancy Act is about protecting the rights of tenants and landlords.
Dr. Zulfa added that councils are an important layer in the enforcement of laws. Therefore, the availability of information on the laws is essential for the councils to play their role in the implementation of the laws.
Speaking after inaugurating the program, Minister Shareef said that the program is crucial to ensuring the application of laws in the atolls. One of the top priorities of the President is to uphold the rule of law and make the people and institutions aware of the laws.
The minister said that a country's progress as a country will be seen when the laws are being properly implemented. The LGA is also working to enhance the capacity of councils in implementing laws, he said, adding that the LGA plays an important role in maintaining the rule of law.
The program launched yesterday is part of the policies to be implemented during the first 14 weeks of the President's administration.
