Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has met with Dr. Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore. Minister Zameer is currently attending the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
During the previous administration, President Ibrahim Solih made a state visit to Singapore, which was followed by the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Minister Zameer has stated that the two nations share the bond of being fellow Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and they have agreed to begin further collaboration on issues of mutual interest.
The Foreign Minister has recently attended the ministerial meeting of the Summit in Uganda and given the perspective of Maldives on three key issues.
Minister Zameer made 3 recommendations:
1. Restructure existing working methods to improve efficiency by taking advantage of the latest technological advances
2. Recognize global changes and respond to emerging new challenges, including security threats
3. Reform and re-strengthen the multilateral system and create an environment conducive to international cooperation
