Government's 2025 Budget Prioritizes Housing, Aims for a "Golden Age of Housing"

The government has unveiled a landmark budget for 2025, with housing as a central priority, reflecting President Muizzu’s pledge to address the Maldives’ urgent housing needs. In presenting the budget, Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer announced an unprecedented investment dedicated to achieving sustainable housing solutions across the nation.
Minister Zameer noted that MVR 1 billion has been allocated for housing loans with a favorable 5% interest rate, while an additional MVR 2 billion is set aside for housing financing through local banks. Further reinforcing the commitment to housing development, MVR 1.8 billion has been dedicated to new Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) projects in the housing sector. The Minister emphasized that this allocation marks the highest expenditure on housing in Maldivian history.
Describing 2025 as the start of a “golden age of housing,” Zameer stated that 50% of all new PSIP projects are reserved for housing initiatives. The budget reflects the government's long-term commitment to providing adequate and affordable housing, positioning housing development as the cornerstone of national progress in the coming year.
