Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer has announced a planned salary increase for civil service employees in the upcoming fiscal year, with the 2025 budget set to allocate significant funds for wage harmonization across the public sector. The proposed budget, totalling MVR 56.6 billion, was presented to parliament with a strong emphasis on improving the compensation structure for public sector employees.
Minister Zameer detailed that MVR 502 million has been allocated specifically for harmonizing salaries across the civil service and judiciary. This step aligns with the government’s commitment to fair compensation, addressing disparities, and ensuring a consistent salary structure across these sectors.
The Minister also confirmed that the government intends to introduce salary adjustments for all remaining public employees by 2026, indicating a phased approach to civil service wage reform that will span multiple fiscal cycles.
The implementation of these salary measures reflects the government’s broader goal of promoting equity and motivation within the public sector. By enhancing compensation, the government aims to support a more effective and engaged workforce, ultimately improving public service delivery across the Maldives.
