Government Announces New Vehicles & Equipment Procurement for MNDF

The Ministry of Defense is working to provide the MNDF with modern road, sea and air vehicles and equipment to fulfill its military and civil defense role.

The Ministry said in a statement today that the vehicles and equipment would serve the goals of the Constitution and the Maldivian State, to secure the independence and sovereignty of Maldives, the territory and the Special Economic Zone of Maldives. It would also aid in the rescue of citizens in danger and protection of property in natural disasters and other dangerous incidents. The responsibility of searching for and rescuing people at sea and protecting the lives and property of the people from dangerous accidents at sea and on land has been given to the MNDF.

The statement also said that the MNDF should take the lead in conducting operations to protect and safeguard Maldivian fisheries, and prevent transnational organized crimes such as trafficking and maritime terrorism.

The Government has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has made the MNDF a modern military capable of fulfilling its duties and responsibilities and capable of facing the security challenges and threats in the ever-changing security environment.

Therefore, the Government has acted on the advice of the National Security Council constituted under the Army Act and the necessary steps are being taken to provide the MNDF with modern road, sea and air vehicles and equipment.
