President Concludes State Visit to China

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Saajidha Mohamed have concluded the first state visit of the President’s administration, and the first visit of a foreign leader to China in the new year. The visit was conducted on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who marked the arrival of the Maldivian delegation with a Guard of Honor.
The main purpose of this state visit was to carry out high level bilateral discussions between the two nations, which were led by each country’s respective President. This visit has been considered highly successful by the Maldivian administration, with twenty key agreements having been signed during the meetings. These agreements promise to enact large developmental projects across Maldives, with new developments being carried out in both the Greater Male’ Region and throughout the Atolls.
Prior to these discussions, the President and First Lady of Maldives were invited to a variety of other Chinese events and institutions, which allowed for the growth of cultural, economic and political ties. One of the most significant events during these extra engagements was the “Invest Maldives Forum,” where Dr. Muizzu gave a speech to Chinese investors and local government officials. Dr. Muizzu shared his vision for the Maldives and assured potential investors of the safety and prosperity they would have, should they choose to do business in Maldives. The President also stated the importance of his visit to China, emphasizing the closeness of the two nations.
The state visit was carried out by a high ranking delegation of the Maldivian government, which included the President and several cabinet ministers. This highlights the importance afforded to China by the current administration, and indicates the level of involvement China will have in the development of Maldives during Dr. Muizzu’s term.
