President Nasheed Reminds the Public That Jailing Yameen is Not Cause for Celebration

President Nasheed has stated that the jailing of President Yameen should not be cause for celebration. Speaking at a press conference tonight, he emphasized that no one would want to see their leader treated badly.
Everyone would hate the way their leader is treated badly. There will be emotions. That's something we all need to accept. And that's not the kind of thing we should be happy about," Nasheed said.
President Nasheed also declined to comment on whether the verdict against President Yameen was politically motivated. As a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), he has faced accusations of misusing the judiciary in the past.
On December 25th, President Yameen was sentenced to jail. He is the opposition candidate of the Progressive Party of Maldives, which has stated that the charges against him are politically motivated. Since the verdict, the party has been organizing daily protests in the capital city of Male.
