The opposition coalition has decided to hold a nationwide protest on Friday demanding the release of opposition leader President Abdulla Yameen, who has been convicted of two counts and sentenced to 11 years in prison in connection with the lease of V.Aarah.
In a press conference held by the opposition today, interim leader of the opposition and president of PNC Abdul Raheem stated that protests will be held across the country this Friday and that thousands of supporters are expected to take part in the protest.
Abdul Raheem appealed the public to continue the work started by President Yameen last year after he got freed from a previous conviction.
The opposition coalition has started daily protests since President Yameen was sentenced to prison last Sunday.
