President's Office directs Judge Shakeel to issue guilty verdict to President Yameen

The President's Office has prepared the verdict against opposition leader and former President Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a criminal court official confirmed that the President's Office had instructed Judge Ahmed Shakeel to issue a guilty verdict to President Yameen.

Speaking to TMJ, the criminal court official said that President Yameen has been found guilty by the criminal court. He added that the process of writing the verdict was initiated on the instructions of the President's Office. The purpose of the verdict was to close all avenues for President Yameen to run for president in the upcoming elections.

He added that this was done through Ali Zahir, chief of staff at the President's Office. The final preparations for the verdict are currently underway in the criminal court.

The criminal court has scheduled to sentence President Yameen on Sunday. It was confirmed to TMJ that the government had asked police and soldiers to remain on alert on December 25 and 26 when the sentencing was scheduled.
