Party's membership registry is rigged, primaries will not be fair: Nasheed

President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the party's membership registry used in internal elections has been severely distorted and it will have an adverse impact on the party in the presidential elections.
In a letter to MDP Chairperson Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, he said he was contesting the primary to decide the party's presidential candidate.
He said that 40,000 members were removed from MDP's registry without their knowledge. President Nasheed said that hence he does not believe that a primary held in such a condition will be fair.
In addition he said that a primary conducted without the participation of 40,000 party members will result in a loss for MDP in the 2023 elections.
Nasheed requested Fayyaz to ensure that the 40,000 members who were removed without their knowledge be allowed to vote in the upcoming primaries.
MDP's primary will be held on 18th January 2023.
