Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that the accommodation block of Afcon workers in Gulhifalhu was burnt to the ground in the fire that broke out last night.
More than 400 Afcon staff who are working on the Thilamale bridge project were accommodated in the block. MNDF revealed that 74 people were injured in the fire. While there were no life-threatening injuries, 6 people are in serious condition.
MNDF received information about the fire around 0031 hours last night and the fire was controlled by 0151 hours.

It is expected that the bridge project will be further delayed due to the fire. The project is already months behind the schedule.
