The largest private hospital in the country, ADK Hospital, has increased the price of its services.
The hospital said in a statement that the global economic slowdown since 2020 has led to higher inflation and higher prices of goods and services in Maldives and abroad. Therefore, the operating costs of ADK will increase many times and the prices of services will be increased from next Thursday to provide services in a sustainable manner, the statement said.
ADK stated that information regarding the changes in prices will be available at the counter at the hospital.
While ADK has decided to increase the price of services, it should be noted that they are the biggest beneficiary of the government's health insurance scheme Aasandha. The government has paid out MVR 1.5 billion to private hospitals in the past 11 years, of which 63 percent went to ADK. The land where the ADK hospital building is located is also given by the government at a very low rent.
Despite the global economic shocks from 2020, the company has expanded its businesses in the past three years. ADK is an importer of medical consumables, medicine and machinery and made millions during the pandemic.
ADK is owned by Nashid, a former MP of ruling party MDP.
