The company, JMC Projects is working on a 2000 housing unit project being built under a loan disbursed by the India Exim Bank to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation.
Over 800 employees went on strike after missing two consecutive months of salary. The protests were held outside their accommodation blocks in Phase 2.
Although Maldives Police patrolled the area, no conflict occurred. Law enforcement strengthened the security around the Indian High Commission in Male’ as soon as the protests broke out.
Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation, who signed the contract with JMC Projects, had made no comment on the issue. However, according to information they shared with some media, salaries were delayed due to a change in Exim Bank policies.
