India Releases An Advance Payment To Maldives Govt For 8 High-Impact Projects

India has released an advance payment for initiating 8 projects in the Maldives.
According to the Indian High Commission, MVR5.49 million has been released to the Maldivian government to begin mobilisation work on 8 high-impact grant projects. The MOUs for implementing the projects had been signed on 21 October 2021. The High Commission stated that the councils were supposed to implement those projects with the MVR70 million that had been given as a free grant in July 2021.
The High Commission stated that these 8 projects, which cost a total of MVR36.5 million, were projects that were to go forward in 7 atolls; Thaa, Laamu, Haa-Alifu, Noonu, Kaafu, Alifu Dhaalu, and Gaafu-Dhaalu atolls.
Installation of street-lamps in Thimarafushi (Thaa Atoll), and Veymandoo (Thaa Atoll), establishing an ice-plant in Maabaidhoo (Laamu Atoll), building a new cultural centre in Dhan'gethi (Alifu Dhaalu), construction of a new council building in Miladhoo (Noonu), construction of Aboobakuru School at Thinadhoo (Gaafu Dhaalu), Ihaddhoo School at Ganu (Laamu), and an Inclusive Education Support Unit at Haa Alifu Atoll Educational Centre in Dhidhdhoo (Haa Alifu Atoll), sea-ambulances for the Maldives National Defence Force, and upgrading Olympus Cinema in Male City.
12 high-impact projects are currently underway throughout the Maldives, funded by MVR85 million granted in March 2019. India released MVR106 million as a cash grant, and has implemented 18 development projects. The High Commission said that 16 of the 30 grant projects have now been completed.
