Japan Supports Maldives Red Crescent with Emergency Response Vehicle and Equipment

The Government of Japan has committed a grant of Japanese Yen Four Million Three Hundred Eighty One Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Two (JPY 4,381,452) for the provision of an emergency support vehicle and dewatering equipment to the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) in Kulhudhuffushi City, Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The grant was signed by Her Excellency Mrs. TAKEUCHI Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Ms. Fathimath Himya, Secretary General of the MRC.
Under the terms of the grant contract, the project funds will be used for the procurement of a brand new Toyota Hilux 4WD Double vehicle, which will be used to support emergency response operations in Kulhudhuffushi City. The vehicle will be used during disasters such as various forms of flooding, other emergencies, and accidents to reduce the deployment time. In addition to the vehicle, dewatering equipment such as a water pump and hoses will also be procured.
The grant is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives through the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme. The GGP scheme is aimed at empowering people at the grassroots level and has been implemented in areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy since 1996. The scheme aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
The grant from the Government of Japan will provide essential support for the emergency response operations of the Maldivian Red Crescent in Kulhudhuffushi City. The vehicle and dewatering equipment will help the MRC respond to disasters and emergencies in a timely and effective manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of the local community.
