Japanese Tourist Found Dead After Diving Near Maafushi

A Japanese tourist who went missing while diving near Maafushi has been found dead, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The tourist was recovered during a search operation carried out by divers from the MNDF Malé Area Command and the Coast Guard’s Second Squadron. The body was located and retrieved at approximately 17:17 today.

The search began earlier this afternoon after the tourist was reported missing during a dive near Kandooma Thila in the morning hours.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. An investigation is expected to follow to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
