ACP Riyaz coerced involved parties into giving statements against Pres. Yameen

Former president and opposition leader President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom’s defense attorneys accused the Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz of coercing other parties involved in the dispute into giving statements against their client in exchange for protection from prosecution.
In a press briefing, President Yameen’s lawyer Ali Shaah stated that the police have acted outside of their jurisdiction during the investigative process by having political inclinations and influence.
Shaah noted that senior police officials have attempted to amend and coerce specific statements from the political parties involved in the charges issued in relation to President Yameen’s case, to frame their client. Shaah claimed to have auditory evidence to prove coercion on part of the law enforcement.
Shaah asserted that evidence unearthed suggest that the state no longer had intentions of delivering justice in these cases.
Shaah mentioned the delayed bribery case of Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mahloof. Moreover, he noted that while numerous politicians and social elite were accused of being recipients of MMPRC dirty money, none have been charged or prosecuted. Therefore, Shaah concluded that the state has no intention of justice.
President Yameen’s lawyer, Abdulla Shiyaz stated that the charges against President Yameen had been orchestrated by the MMPRC-gate incitors, with them at the helm of running the show much like various scenes from a screenplay.
Shiyaz said that the prosecution filed charges against the former president by revealing documentary evidence to support their case, while concealing what didn’t. Shiyaz asserted that the hidden evidence always comes to light only during the hearings.
