Managing Director of major travel agency, Inner Maldives and Ace Aviations, Mohamed Firaq said that were the tourism awards have been given in all fairness, former President and opposition leader Yameen Abdul Qayyoom would have been a recipient.
Firaq tweeted about the injustice of not rewarding President Yameen for his contributions to the tourism industry and said that it showed the extent of political hatred harbored in the Maldives.
Firaq had tagged the Minister of Tourism, Abdulla Mausoom in his tweet, calling the action a sad mishap.
While president Yameen was not awarded the tourism award, former Presidents, Ibrahim Nasir, Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom and even Mohamed Nasheed received the award.
President Yameen’s time in office saw the development of the International Airport terminal of the Maldives, bringing in major investments to the tourism industry. The awards were issued by the tourism ministry in celebration of the golden jubilee of Maldivian tourism.
