The parliament’s National Development and Heritage Committee turned away the Minister of Transport, Aishath Nahula for being late to today’s committee meeting.
The meeting agenda included presentation and review of the annual reports for the Ministry of Transport and Transport Authority.
After some time from the meeting start time, committee chairperson and MP for the Baarashu constituency, Ahmed Abdulla said that the Ministry was tasked with presenting their annual reports today. However, since they arrived much later, the committee decided to send them away after canceling the meeting, to schedule the presentation and review for another day.
The committee decided to mark the transport ministry as absent from today’s meeting, declaring that the ministry will be ordered to attend a second meeting that will be scheduled in the stead of today’s canceled meeting.
TMJ has learned that Minister Nahula attended the committee meeting later than the set time. She entered the room followed by other senior staff of the ministry. However, the committee regarded their tardiness as absence and let the records reflect as such.
Moreover, after sending the minister and her staff away, the chairperson had assured that the meeting would be rescheduled like most committee members wanted.
