The Minister of Transport, Aishath Nahula, said that the services of the Transport Authority; that runs under the Transport Ministry; is not slow.
Answering questions from the Parliament Government Oversight Committee, Minister Nahula said that after an application portal had been launched: the Transport Authority has been able to attend to 96% of all requests submitted to the Authority.
As only 4% of applications are pending, the Minister said that she did not view the Transport Authority's work as being slow. She said that the Ministry of Transport has improved the quality of service provided by the Transport Authority.
The Minister said that arrangements were being made to minimize the amount of information applicants had to fill into forms when requesting for services with the Authority.
The Minister did admit to difficulties in providing services. She said that since the Transport Authority was staffed by only 21 employees, and was responsible for providing services to the Male region as well as the entire country.
The Minister said that although there were very good employees at the Authority, some employees were responsible for delays. She also mentioned that it was difficult to fire employees who were responsible for causing delays.
