Former Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim said that former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration provided proper sewerage facilities for 80 percent of the population.
Thoriq’s tweet said that President Yameen’s “hopeful” leadership ensured proper sewerage services to 80 percent of the population and clean water to 60 percent of the population. Thoriq said that there was no way the people of Maldives would forget the fact.
The current administration has claimed that the establishment of sewerage systems as one of their own accomplishments.
Although the government has commenced water and sewerage projects in less-populated islands, none of those sewerage and water systems have been activated for usage.
Despite the government’s initiative to start these projects, delays in the execution of services have earned them multitudes of criticism.
When questioned, the administration told the parliament that these projects were being delayed due to the incompetence of the contractors.
