Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom urges the youth to vote in the coming election to change the country’s current situation.
Yameen addressed the youth during an interview on “Sangu TV”. He stated that showing disinterest in voting in the elections shows their lack of interest in improving the country’s political situation and it is unacceptable.
Yameen said that although he acknowledged the doubts and reservations held by the Maldivian youth, it was up to the youth to turn the tide. He advised the younger generation to fulfill their obligation and think about the needs of the country. He also asked the youth to aide him in coming up with a worthy manifesto for the betterment of the nation.
President Yameen rationalized that the opportunity to positively impact national and societal conduct comes once in five years through the presidential election and there’s nothing that affects national security more than the election of a president.
Granted that there would be no option for the next five years should an inadequate individual be appointed as the President, Yameen encouraged the youth to be a part of the biggest decision the people make.
Pres. Yameen said that the youth must remain the people most concerned with the future of the country. Moreover, the youth must be the people compiling the manifesto and express interest in improving the bigger picture.
