Shahil was intoxicated at time of arrest, do not know what he had used

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that Ali Shahil was intoxicated at the time he was arrested on charges of murdering a 22-year-old woman.
Speaking in a press conference held Sunday evening, head of Major Crime Investigations Unit Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Shifau confirmed that Shahil was intoxicated at the time of arrest.
When questioned by Dhiyares on the nature of substances Shahil had used, Shifau said that so far they checked whether he was intoxicated. This test, he added, would not identify what exactly Shahil had taken.
MPS had refused divulge on evidence they had collected from the scene but confirmed the murder weapon was found. MPS is continuing their search for more evidence.
Shifau also refrained from publicizing details of injuries the victim had sustained, in order to protect the family and to honor their wish that details should not become public.
MPS further noted that Shahil had no previous criminal record, adding that no other woman had come forth with an assault claim perpetrated by Shahil. Shahil's close friends and associates had reported to several media sources that he was prone to anger and violence. Some had said they were not surprised that Shahil had committed such a brutal crime.
