Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof says that he will answer the calls from Members of Parliament when they begin paying his phone bills.
His rather flippant remark came in Tuesday’s Parliament session. The Minister was responding to the MPs questions in Parliament.
In the time granted for follow up questions, Kanditheemu Constituency MP Abdullah Shaheem Abdul Hakeem asked the Minister on what he should do for the Minister to respond to his calls.
In responding to the question, Minister Mahloof said that the MP ought to be paying his phone bills and that he would answer the calls immediately then. Minister Mahloof said that he responds to around 90 percent of the calls made by Parliamentarians.
He added that he was on the receiving end of calls from Parliament Members, Councils, and other offices and that a missed call should not be seen as a slight. Minister Mahloof said that his lines of communication were always open, adding that he forwards letters from constituents sent to the Ministry to the respective Parliamentarian.
