Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has announced their intention to put the dismissal of Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem on agenda.
The motion to remove PG Shameem from position was first put forth in a Parliamentary Group meeting held on the first of this month.
However, PG leader Mohamed Aslam on that day, had decreed that the issue was a major issue and therefore need to be put forth in a separate sitting, as a separate matter. The motion was first put forth under miscellaneous items.
He also said that only 35 out of the 65 Members of Parliament were in attendance and, therefore, an insufficient amount to arrive at a decision. He urged all members to participate in the discussion.
Shameem was appointed to the position with the vote of 74 MPs. He has been the focus of much criticism over his decisions on drug cases and graft charges stemming from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the ventilation graft.
