Member of Parliament for Thulhaadhoo Constituency Hisaan Hussain has criticized the war of words between the two factions of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), stating that labeling all members who do not support MP Imthiyaz Fahmy as thieves would hurt the party.
The ruling MDP is currently embroiled a internal war, just ahead of the Chairperson elections in May.
Parliament Speaker former President Mohamed Nasheed is backing MP Imthiyaz Fahmy for the Chairperson slot, while President Solih has lent his support to Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail. Both factions have traded heavy words, accusing the other of inappropriate conduct, corruption, and misdemeanors.
Hisaan made the statement in a twitter exchange between an individual and Feydhoo Constituency Member of Parliament Mohamed Nihad. The individual has since deleted their tweet.
Hisaan, who also serves in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), said that internal spats and accusations would only hurt the Party. She also defended fellow Parliamentarian for South Hithadhoo Constituency Nazil. In his defense, Hisaan said that, Nazil had never bid on a government project and, as such, has not taken part in any government project. Nazil is also her husband.
The Chairperson elections are slated for May 14th. Some have dubbed these elections as a battle between the two Presidents.
