Fmr EC President Shareef Appointed as Managing Director of STELCO

Ahmed Shareef, who had formerly been the President of the Elections Commission, has been appointed as Managing Director of STELCO.
Hassan Mughni, who had been the former Managing Director, had been informed of his dismissal from his position this week.
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) wrote to STELCO informing them of their decision to appoint Shareef to the Managing Director's post, and that his appointment would be effective immediately.
Mughni is a member of the Jumhooree Party, a ruling coalition partner. Many members of the JP are unhappy with his dismissal, and have blamed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of being behind the dismissal.
When Shareef had resigned from his post at the Elections Commission, rumours spread that he was doing so to assume a high management post at a public company. At the time, it was said that he would be appointed as Managing Director of Fenaka.
Sources say that Mughni would be transferred to the Energy Authority, run under the Environment Ministry. This transfer has not yet been officially announced.
