Nasheed, One-Time Advocate for Indian Military Invasion of Maldives, Praises Ukrainian President's Show of Bravery

Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has praised the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's show of bravery in the face of the ongoing Russian military assault on Ukraine.
The comedian turned president, Zelenskyy has publicly refused the United States' offer to grant him refuge in America. In a public speech following the Russian invasion, he said that he and his family would remain in Ukraine.
Ukraine's government media outlets have published photographs of Zelenskyy in military uniform, appearing to boost the morale of Ukrainian soldiers.
Russia's justification for their attack on Ukraine has been Zelenskyy's close relationship with western Europe and NATO, and his endorsement of the build-up of NATO's military presence in Ukraine.
In a tweet posted today, Speaker Nasheed said it was impossible to not be impressed by the Ukranian President's bravery.

However, in retrospect, Speaker Nasheed had openly called on the Indian government to send their military to the Maldives following the attempted coup d'etat on the Yameen administration on February 2018.

Speaker Nasheed has been a vocal advocate for the presence of the Indian military in the Maldives. His party, the Maldivian Democratic Party, has recently attempted to punish opposition to India's military presence in the Maldives with prison sentences.
