Opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has stated that all political leaders except those of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives and the People's National Congress are "traitors" to the Maldivian state and its people.
Speaking in Vilin'gili (Gaafu Alifu Atoll) on a visit to campaign for the "India Out" movement, the former President had said that during the best season for fishing, Indian fishing vessels would fence-off and surround Maldivian fishing-waters, and the government would not have the courage to say anything against it.
He said that the rulers of the Maldives did not act like anything was wrong with the country, and that they did not know the poor state the people were in. He said that a government such as this, in which all of its heads had betrayed the Maldivian people, is unprecedented in history.
He stated that except for the leadership of the opposition Progressive National Congress, all of the Maldives' political leaders have betrayed the Maldivian people.
He promised that he would not ally with any group who ignored the concerns of the people regarding the stationing of the Indian military in the Maldives and betrayed the Maldivian people.
He said that the government has neglected the rights of the people.
